I liked the part with the slow-motion grain harvesting montage.
More of the same shit. The pacing was maybe a little tighter this time, but the story was no more compelling. Everything was blurry as fuck, the slow-motion was ridiculous, there were too many characters with no good reason to care about them, and the writing was simply awful.
I don't know how I'm supposed to take seriously a movie with situations and character actions completely at odds with its own worldbuilding. The empire has all these spaceships and laser weapons and armoured battle crawlers, but they desperately need this single field of wheat.
Then a bunch of space-amish, cottage-core farmers (that don't even own a combine harvester) defeat them with the cunning strategy of... digging tunnels and hiding in a barn. The fact that the ambush consisted of popping out of a hole 15 metres in front of a drop ship and firing a rocket into it while every soldier completely failed to react is almost as stupid as the fact that it actually worked.
Every single time that one dude with the axes charged at the infantry like a viking berserker I expected him to be immediately gunned down. Even the imperial soldiers were just standing completely out in the open. I guess cover isn't a thing in the future, and the effective range of a laser rifle is a stone's throw.
Once again the cliché evil British guy was utterly boring. The addition of a not-lightsaber duel to the mix was simply embarrassing. The movie ended on a note implying the story has only just begun. We're a solid four hours into this mess at this point, and I have to wonder who's asking for more. I'm sure it's on its way regardless.
Once again Sofia Boutella was the best part of the movie by far. She looked so good in short hair and a tank top, with her strong arms on display. Even though her romantic interest was dull as rocks, she was cute in those scenes too. Let's face it, I'm going to keep watching this drivel just for her.
Laughably derivative and painfully mediocre, just like part one.
